Mother’s Day is a great way to create memories with the one and only Mom. Given the circumstances, many of us are celebrating from home or away from the women we love most. For this reason, traditional Mother’s Day fancy dinners and spa days feel near impossible to achieve. But that doesn’t mean that Mother’s Day is canceled this year, in fact, this means the holiday is truer to its roots than ever before.
Mothers day during quarantine can be so much fun! With a little imagination, you can give your Mom the Mother’s Day that she not only deserves but also needs during quarantine. Below are some suggestions that do not require you or your Mom to leave the house. But if you are currently stuck in your own home away from your Mom, we have included some virtual activities that you can both enjoy together even if you are physically apart. The experiences below are great gifts for your Mom this year and most of all, they are Mother-Approved.
Serve Breakfast in Bed

Start off her Mothers day during quarantine the right way by showing up at her doorstep with a tray of all her breakfast favorites. If your Mom isn’t a huge breakfast fan like my Mom, her brunch favorites are always a good alternative. Now in case you can’t be there physically we haven’t left you out, you can always place an order at her favorite local spot and have it delivered when she wakes up. Some recipes here
Create a Build-Your-Own Breakfast Station

While most Mom’s prefer waking up to a fully-prepared breakfast, others enjoy the versatility of family-style breakfast stations. Do you remember what some of her favorite breakfast foods are? My mom likes pancakes with sausage wrapped inside, basically a larger version of the famous “Pigs in a blanket”. The beauty of creating your very own breakfast station is you can choose anything she likes such as waffles, pancakes, bagels and she can add additional fixings as she sees fit. With a lot of restaurants and activities off limits bring the experience home this mothers day during quarantine.
Send Mom a Gift
Decorate The Front Door

If you cannot be with your Mom this holiday, that doesn’t mean you still can’t do something special for her. Before you go drop off her Mother’s day card and gift, bring some decorative materials with you and prepare to make her day. Take some additional time when dropping off your card and gift and dress up her front door, this way she’ll be greeted with a BIG surprise when she opens her door. She can also leave it up for the whole neighborhood to see for the rest of the season and bring cheer to the community for mothers day during quarantine.
My Mom likes all animals so a cute paw print door hanger sign with the quote “All Paws Welcome!” would make her day. Some ideas here
Virtual Cooking Class

What better way to spend time with your Mom than to cook with her and the whole family on Mother’s Day with a virtual cooking class. There are so many choices when it comes to virtual cooking classes. You can choose from almost anything including a specialty class, or if you prefer you can learn to cook an entire meal from scratch. My Mom absolutely loves Thai cuisine, so finding a class to learn how to make Pad Thai would send her to the moon with excitement!
Craftsy has a good list of classes. Other virtual class ideas for mothers day during quarantine include; crafts, art, calligraphy, photography or gardening.
Go Hiking

You have heard of the old expression “A walk in the woods”, this Mother’s Day take it literally and go on a hike with your Mom. Depending on where you live you may or may not have access to hiking trails, but that does not mean that you still can’t enjoy a good hike. Go to your Mom’s favorite outdoor park or maybe you have an unexplored wooded area nearby. Either way, it’s always nice to get out and enjoy the fresh air with loved ones.
My Mom loves to take a hike in the woods nearby, the woods have such a mystical feeling to them especially when the trail you are on is canopied by tall trees. Mothers day during quarantine does not have to limit your ability to explore.
Virtual Happy Hour

If you can’t be with the woman who raised you this Mother’s Day, no need to fret we have you covered with a virtual happy hour. Sign in to one of the many video conferencing applications, I personally use “Google Hangouts” it’s simple to use. After signing in you are free to chat the night away with your favorite cocktail in hand, or maybe you decide to watch a live concert together.
Raise a glass to the woman that raised you, with a virtual happy hour. Invite siblings or other family. Mothers day during quarantine can provide us new opportunities to communicate in new ways. Order mom some appetizers or grocery drop off or even cook the same snacks or meal. Grab her a Wine purse too so she is ready to get out with friends once restrictions are lifted.
